I have been looking forward to today.
I have been thinking about how I wanted to make my felted
Christmas Tree.
I cut 14 triangles out of the forest green merino wool sweater
I felted last week.
I sewed them together and refelted the fabric in the kitchen sink.
I created a drying frame from a dowel and some florist foam that I put in a pot.I have been thinking about how I wanted to make my felted

While the tree began to dry I felted some of the scrapes in my scrap box.
I began to soft sculpture little ornaments.
I did balls for the tree tips. These I hope to needle felt onto my tree.
I bought the small drying frame at the thrift store yesterday. I thought it would be an attractive way to dry small felted things. I am out of room so everything has to be decoarative as well as useable!
A felted rose from a scrap! I think I will add some small seed pearls or beads to Miss Rose.
All this month I will be working on the felted Christmas tree.
I think needle felting ornaments will be so fun!
I also can do some stumpwork embroidery ornaments.
I think making a tree is a great way to learn!
I will share each week as the felted Christmas Tree
grows and becomes
a sampler.
I am closing up the sewing machine until January.
I am bringing out my sewing box.

Those colorful felted ornaments are so pretty. You can add beads and sequins too. This looks like too much fun.

The felted tree will grow as my felting grows. I have a plan!
I am using the tiny scrapes for ornaments...I am also using the thread scrapes. This is a full use sort of art.
I will share as the tree comes to life.

Dear LIsa,
Using the tree as a spot to work on relearning my embroidery stitches and for learning new techniques will be great. I have it in a pot right now and on a bamboo lazy susan. Easy to take to the kitchen table when I want to do some needle felting.
I have an idea of how my tree will grow and be in my studio....

I am feeling much better, thank you. I love to create. I was thinking about how I am always making something. I just do it naturally I guess.
I make little roses out of all sorts of bitty pieces of this and that.
My fingers like to be making things, I guess!

I think I just start creating!!
Some ideas, like the felted tree to start with is because I love trees. Some day it will be 8 feet tall and in my studio as a display piece and a sampler...It will be an ongoing project from now on. Each section is to be one year in the making. I started with the top this year and as 2009 unfolds I will be adding to it. Next winter I will soft sculture the next layer and begin decorating it. Hopefully it will always look "finished" and "in process." Sort of like my life!
I have never worked with willow. I bet it can be trying. Hope you try again. Sometimes projects just take some doing and redoing.
Being an artist is happy, hard work!

If you think of me next Tuesday I will be working on my little tree. I shall post in the afternoon after I get some ornaments attached! I am learning needle felting. It is fun to do.
I broke all my needles last night so I will have to go get some more. Next time I will be more careful.
