Prayer Beads

This book from the library inspired me
to make prayer beads.

I am planning a rosary. I am gathering beads from my Grandmother and from my Mother.

I am making a prayer rope from my dried Solstice roses.

I added 1/4 cup water to two cups of
crumbled dried roses.
I mixed the water into the roses until I had a paste.

I folded in a few drops of Rose Absolute.

I pinched off a small amount of paste
and made a ball about the size of a dime.

I made a hole through the rose beads with a darning needle and some ribbon.

The rose beads are in a flat basket drying on the hearth.
It will take about a week for them to be dry.

I made 24 beads.
After the beads are dry I will string them and spray them with clear varnish.

Now this is a facinating project. I love prayer beads. We Roman Catholics have had our beads for many years. I should do this for my Sister etc. Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Is there more I should know?? I have lots of dried roses that Gary has given me over the years. I have always wanted something to do with them. I figured it would come to me some day. BEADS...perfect.

Dear Lisa,
Making beads is very easy. I find if I make small batches I enjoy the process more. Making the paste is the hardest part. Each batch is different. It depends on how dry the petals are and how small I crumble the pieces as to how much water is needed. Also if I use the oil I have to remember to use only a couple of drops.
As soon as the beads dry I will spray them with clear varnish. I will post again to show.
I am thinking of stringing them with string my Dad used to tie up his boxes and papers. I saved the string and shredded the old checks and bills.
Let me know if you make beads....
I am really excited about beads of all sorts. I am making my sister a rosary for Christmas next year....

Dear Cheryl,
Prayer beads are very fun to do. I am enjoying the process so very much. My sis will lov ethe rosary and I will be thrilled to have a prayer rope for me.
I also think I will make me a rosary....I will write my own prayers and honor my own mysteries.
Namaste,
Sherry
